lifeguard chair + snow

These lifeguard chairs are to promote the city's beaches and new lifeguard recruits. The parks department is behind the project and is spondered by the free daily, Metro. I'll post some more pictures of the square on my site soon...

rocky, yo

Had to, had to, had to. Philly for presidents day weekend and made a stop by the statue, of course. By the way, Pat's cheesesteaks are best... and so are their fries- just make sure you are not a British sympathizer the night my Celtic friend is behind the counter. Nearly tore my head off when he noticed my Scottish scarf...

soccer friendly: USA 2 v. Mexico 0 (or -3)

why a -3 you ask? No class, and here's the proof:

1) Diving. Simple, the US doesn't, Mexico does. Worst byproduct of the modern game. Falling without being touched to draw a foul is a cowards game. The rivalry gets very chippy and tense at times, but that's a good thing. Diving is crap.

2) The cheap swipe by the Mexican Goalkeeper. Classless. I will provide video evidence shortly, but basically after unlucky (for Mexico) bounce off a ref, Donovan split two defenders speedily and juked the goalie before finding the back of the net in a clinching goal. After Donovan was behind him, the keeper tried to slide tackle Johnson... after the play... with no ball in sight... I am hoping FIFA reviews the tape. Scum.

3) Not shaking the US players hand at the games end. Hey, there's bad blood, but c'mon? A little professionalism. The US players looked around confused, then bemused.

As for the game itself- as usual, it seems the US looked like the worse team. They put together some good combinations and even some classic strikes, but overall looked in disarray. Possession is not fluid or consistent. The defense broke down way too many times and luck seemed to save the final balance. Mexico had too many quality chances that just didn't finish for varying reasons.

calm before...

the christmas village is back in union square and it's a quiet night before the zany shopping spree of the upcoming weeks. There is an installation on the other end of the park, but not really worth showing...

redbulls - august

Saw the redbulls in august for the first time since their (awful) name change. They were playing a sold-out game against Barcelona- staring Ronaldinho, who rocked the house with some sweet moves. There were plenty of great players on the Spanish side, which was why the 1-1 tie at halftime was surprising. Then came the goals... check out more shots in the gallery

exposure tricks

Trying some camera tricks this week- here's a quick shot of me painting the air with a lighter. exposure time: 15sec. I'm using a canon pro 1 and testing it's limitations (The most dramatic so far being the crap low-light focusing).

Cloisters

Went back to the Cloisters on 8-27 to photograph the works with my camera. (Some of the photos got corrupted, I'll repost them fixed in a little while). The day was a bit damp (it poured) so I was able to grab some nice shots with varied shutter speeds of water.

Not sure if it is obvious, but you can click on the thumbnail to the left in each post to go to the collection of photos.
